SLAMcore teams up with Intel RealSense technology with first “out-of-the-box” SLAM algorithms

We are a software company, focused on creating the best possible algorithms for SLAM that will drive the next generation of autonomous robots. But software cannot function in isolation and we’ve been working with some of the leading innovators in sensor technology to ensure that our software is perfectly suited to work with their hardware. I’m pleased to announce that Intel is one of those companies.

Today we issued a press release announcing that SLAMcore has joined the Intel RealSense software programme. The programme identifies software that can be paired with the company’s leading depth cameras to deliver outstanding results across computer vision and robotics.

Through the programme the SLAMcore Spatial AI SDK has been optimized for the Intel RealSense Depth Camera D435i. It combines a wide field of view and great low‑light sensitivity with an inertial measurement unit (IMU). It is a powerful solution for autonomous robotic solutions where small form-factor and light weight are as important as exceptional performance.

SLAMcore customers and developers can be confident that our SDK will work straight out of the box with the depth camera D435i sensor to provide capabilities including lighting invariant six degrees of freedom (6DoF), localization and global/local mapping for a wide range of autonomous robotic platforms.

The combination of cutting-edge hardware and software that delivers a powerful spatial AI solution is essential for the mass adoption of autonomous robots needed to meet the challenges we face. Working as an Intel RealSense Software partner, we can accelerate the deployment of capable autonomous robots in many walks of life. Our software and Intel’s sensors will help robot developers crack the SLAM challenge quickly and cost effectively.

Our philosophy is that algorithms must be optimized for specific hardware. But to do this for every possible hardware and sensor combination would either lead to prohibitively expensive solutions or generic algorithms that had little real-world utility. Instead, SLAMcore is focused on building close partnerships with leading hardware innovators and creating tight, high-functioning integrations with their products. The Intel RealSense partnership is one example of this. We are also working with several other hardware leaders in a similar way. I’ll provide more details on these relationships in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, if you are interested in trialling our SDK with the Intel RealSense Depth Camera D345i please get in touch.
