Owen Nicholson
Owen is the CEO/co-founder of SLAMcore and an expert in IP management. He specialises in technology commercialisation, with industrial experience of early stage technology transfer, intellectual property negotiations, and the successful delivery of multi-million pound projects. Owen currently advises the UK government on university technology transfer and previously acted as an adviser to the UK Intellectual Property Office on best practice for IP management in industrial sponsored university research. In his previous role as Operations Manager at the Dyson Robotics Lab (Imperial College London), Owen was responsible for the management of the laboratory’s intellectual property and monitoring. He directed the strategy, structure, and resources to produce world-leading academic research and transfer this technology into Dyson’s technology road-map. Owen was also Head of Growth at IN-PART, an online platform showcasing academic advances within engineering and life science disciplines and creating opportunities for university-industry collaboration, including co-development, licensing, and long-term partnering, with a focus on technology transfer from the research laboratory to the market. Owen worked for four years as External Research Programme Manager at Dyson, growing the external research programme from a few research projects to a portfolio of dozens of interconnected projects with a wide range of research institutions. He began his career as Graduate Scientist and Technology Manager at the Ministry of Defence where he worked at the Counter Terrorism Science and Technology Centre, across four different research programmes to deliver technologies that help tackle terrorist threats, both home and abroad. Owen has a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Innovation and Technology Management from the University of Bath.
